Why Casey Had to Die

     It’s out, yesss!

On September 17, Wheeler released the large print edition of Why Casey Had to Die, making it the first large print edition of any of my books.

The cover looks the same as the hard copy edition. This one, how-ever, is soft cover and the words Agatha Finalist for Best Novel was added to the back cover.

Please visit your library and request a copy of the book. The more requests they get, the more likely they’re to order Why Casey Had to Die.

And of course, if you know anybody who has a hard time reading the normal size print, please tell them about my book. The book can be ordered through any bookstore or the Internet and even directly from me, if you want it signed.

 The ISBN is 1-59722-819-2.

    Thanks!!!

                One Shiny Penny, Face Up

On Friday, Sept. 5, my world went darker.  My beloved pet, a dog named Killer, passed away.  Killer had cancer and I knew this day would come, but that knowledge didn’t make it any easier.
Killer loved to see all kinds of animals so in June, we took him to Custer State Park in S. D. Bears surrounded the car, bison surrounded the car, and wild donkeys did the same.  Killer was delighted.  One donkey even touched noses with him. Killer’s eyes popped open and he scooted to the opposite end of the car seat.  The donkey then stuck his head in the car, inches away from Killer.  I think Killer got a lot more than he bargained for.
I’m so happy my husband and I were able to do this with Killer before the cancer consumed him.  He was our kid with four legs and fur.
The next few days after his death, my husband and I were very sad.  I can’t imagine never seeing my puppy dog again.  I bowed my head and asked God to send me a new, shiny penny, face up, and that would let me know Killer was alright and that one day we would see each other again.
That night I had a dream about Killer.  Rich, my husband, and I were in our car and Rich was driving us home.  When we arrived, we saw Killer tied with a long rope to a pole in front of the house.  The house didn’t look anything like our home here in El Paso, but I knew that other one was our home.
When Killer saw us he started jumping up and down, so excited to see us.  He really wanted to come to us but of course, he couldn't.  I got out of the car and hugged him and looked at him.  He looked so young--and healthy and skinny (like the way he used to be, but I'd forgotten.)
"How can you be with us? You're dead," I asked him as I hugged and kissed him.
A voice answered, "He never really was dead. Yeah, you buried him, but that doesn't mean he's gone. He's here."
I woke up with a smile on my face.
That day, we went to WalMart and I found a brand new penny, face up, on the floor.  I am no longer sad.

My next Harry Bronson novel is with my publishers and has already been scheduled for publication.  That means I’m ready to start on the newest Bronson mystery-and this is where you enter.
In Why Casey Had to Die Bronson visits Groom, TX, Albuquerque, N.M., and Safford, AZ.  When Death Intervenes, the new Bronson mystery, takes Bronson to South Dakota, Wyoming, and Minnesota.
Where would you like to see Bronson go from here and why there?  What trouble can he encounter?  Send in your suggestions to lchauthor@yahoo.com and if yours is the winning entry, I’ll send you a copy of my latest release, Bell Shaped Flowers, a young adult novelette.  If you’d rather, instead of receiving the book, I can make you a character in the Bronson book I will write-or I can send you a copy of Why Casey Had to Die, the normal size print or the large print edition.
You can either tell me why you want me to set the novel in this particular place or you can suggest what trouble Bronson will encounter or you can do both. Just enter the contest and let me hear from you.
